Over USD8.3 billion FDI capital invested in EZs, IZs

Registered and additional FDI capital in industrial zones (IZs) and economic zones (EZs) totaled more than USD8.3 billion in 2018.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Economic Zones Management Department, IZs and EZs attracted new investment in about 560 FDI projects with a registered capital of more than USD5.3 billion, and increased capital for nearly 500 ongoing projects with more than USD3 billion.

As of the end of 2018, the IZs and EZs absorbed about 7,500 domestic projects with a registered capital of nearly VND970 trillion, and about 8,000 FDI projects with more than USD145 billion. The occupancy rate of operational IZs reached more than 73%.

According to the Economic Zones Management Department, by the end of 2018, Vietnam has had 17 coastal EZs established with a total land and water area of more than 845,000 hectares.

Currently, the country has 326 IZs formed with a total area of approximately 93,000 hectares, in which industrial land covers nearly 64,000 hectares; making up about 68%./.
