Over VND140 trillion proposed for North-South highway in first phase

The Ministry of Transport has proposed an investment plan for the first phase of the North - South highway, running about 684 kilometers with a total capital of VND140.116 trillion, in which VND55 trillion is supported by the State.

As planned, from 2017 to 2020, the project will construct new sections from Mai Son (Hoa Binh) to Bai Vot (Ha Tinh) and from Cam Lam (Khanh Hoa) to Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan) under the PPP (Private Public Partnership) type, and the sector from Cam Lo (Quang Tri) to La Son (Thua Thien - Hue) under the BT (Build Transfer) type, with four lanes and 17 meters in width.

The section running through Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan) and Dau Giay (Dong Nai) will be invested under the PPP type with four highway lanes and 25 meters in width, while the sections from Cao Bo (Nam Dinh) to Mai Son (Ninh Binh) and through La Son (Thua Thien - Hue) will be expanded from two to four lanes.

According to the Ministry, the second phase of the project is planned to be realized from 2023 to 2028, with the focus on building the remaining sections to open traffic through the north-south highway, including Bai Vot (Ha Tinh) - Cam Lo (Quang Tri) and Quang Ngai - Cam Lam (Khanh Hoa, provincial way 655B) with four lanes and 17 meters in width. The phase has a total length of 688 kilometers with a total capital of about VND103.196 trillion, in which VND44.456 trillion is assisted by the State and VND58.740 trillion is capital of investors.

The third phase is expected to be implemented after 2028 to complete the highway route with a total planned capital of about VND69.123 trillion./.
