PM urges political determination, feasible measures for growth target

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked for political determination and feasible measures to achieve growth target in each sector during the Government’s May meeting in Hanoi on June 3rd.

He made it clear that this meeting discusses measures to achieve a 6.7 percent growth set for this year.

Accordingly, agriculture must grow 3.05 percent, in which farm produce export must rake in USD33 billion. Industry should expand by 7.91 percent, with mining, manufacturing and engineering, electricity and construction up 10.5 percent.

Services must grow 7.19 percent, in which tourism should hike more than 30 percent and serve over 13 million foreigners.

The PM directed accelerating capital disbursement which has so far reached 30 percent while speeding up equitisation of State-owned enterprises.

Cabinet members were asked to propose solutions to clearing business obstacles and oversee how State groups and corporations follow the Party Central Committee, National Assembly and government’s policies.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment reported that a record 50,500 new firms were established in the first five months of this year. During the period, inflation was put under control while foreign direct investment attraction and tourism services recorded growth.

The Finance Ministry offered refund of added-value tax online nationwide from May 12th, marking a leap in administrative reform.

For the first time, the government did not delay the submission of its reports to the National Assembly (NA), and submitted 13 bills to the 14th NA’s third session for consideration.

The government leader also took the occasion to brief Cabinet members on the outcomes of his freshly-ended US visit, saying that Vietnam is one of the 16 countries running a trade surplus with the US. Both sides discussed a range of areas, from trade to national defence-security, including the East Sea issue.

The visit also marked a significant milestone in investment promotion, with the signing of economic deals worth up to USD12 billion, including business licenses in engineering and equipment, he said.

He added that intellectuals, overseas Vietnamese and US Congressmen expressed their support for Vietnam’s multilateral relations policy, particularly amid global integration at present.

In social affairs, the PM called for dealing with serious land erosion in the southwest, the medical incident in Hoa Binh provincial general hospital and pavement encroachment in localities./.
