Seven months: Rice export valued at USD1.32 billion

Exported rice volume in July 2016 was estimated to reach 274,000 tonnes, worth USD120 million, bringing the figures from the start of the year to USD2.93 million tonnes, valued at USD1.32 billion, down 18.4% in volume and 14.4% in value over a year earlier, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Average export rice price in the first half of the year was USD451 per tonne, a year-on-year rise of 4.6%, said the ministry.

China continued to take the lead among Vietnam’s biggest rice export markets during the period with 35.1% of market share. Rice exports to the market represented a 23% decrease in volume at over 912 million tones and a 13.2% reduction in value at USD420.2 million.

Indonesia is the second biggest export market of Vietnamese rice with 11.6% of market share. More than 350 million tonnes of rice were shipped to the market, worth USD139.3 million, up 34.8% in volume and 28.7% in value compared to the same period last year.  

Other markets saw sharp value growth, including Ghana (41%) and Ivory Coast (31.3%) while markets with sharp value reduction were the Philippines (54.3%), Malaysia (59.3%) and Singapore (34.6%)./.
