USD8.7 billion poured into IZs, EZs

Industrial zones (IZ) and economic zones (EZ) absorbed about 340 foreign-invested projects in the first half of the year with newly-registered capital of about USD8.7 billion, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Economic Zones Management Department.

So far, total foreign-invested projects in IZs and EZs number about 8,900 with registered capital of about USD186 billion.

For domestically-invested projects, IZs and EZs lured about 334 projects in the six months, capitalized with about VND82.9 trillion; bringing the total number so far to about 9,086 projects with capital of about VND2,065 trillion.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam now has 326 IZs, covering approximately 95.500 ha of natural land; including 65.600 ha of industrial land, equivalent to 68.7%. Of these, 251 IZs were put into operation with a total natural land of about 66,200 ha.

Currently, the country has 17 coastal EZs with a total area of land and water surface of more than 845,000 ha./.
