Vietnam-Canada relations to expand: official

Participants at the event

The event offers opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to learn about the trade and investment environment and expand business relations with Canada.

A representative from VCCI said over the past 5 years, Vietnam – Canada trade turnover increased two fold from USD1.95 billion in 2013 to USD3.87 billion in 2018. Vietnam is now the biggest trade partner of Canada in ASEAN, since 2015. By December 2018, Canada had 174 ongoing projects in Vietnam with a total capital of more than USD5 billion, ranking 14th among 130 countries and territories pouring capital into Vietnam.

In addition, the signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will offer big opportunities to develop the cooperative relations between the two countries.

At the event, the two sides hoped businesses would take these opportunities and expand cooperation. Vietnam pledged to create every favorable condition for Canadian companies to cooperate and do business in the country. The two countries will continue supporting the business communities to develop closer cooperative relations.

Vietnam and Canada established official diplomatic ties in 1973. After more than 45 years of building the relationship, the demand for trade exchange developed sharply, helping trade and investment between the two countries become the core of their relations./.
