Vietnam joins Thailand Rice Convention 2017

(CPV) - A Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh, has joined the Thailand Rice Convention 2017 in Bangkok from May 28th to 30th, with the participation of about 1,500 participants from 40 countries and territories.

In his opening speech themed “Thai Rice Trade and Its Future”, Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha outlined major policies towards the sustainable development of the country’s rice industry. He stressed that the Thai government and enterprises had determined to add value to the rice sector, which is still strength of the country’s economy.

Thai Minister of Commerce Apiradi Tantraporn said the convention was first organized to promote the potential of the country in the field of cultivation and rice processing.

The Thai rice industry has advanced in its technological development and technological integration, in response to the government's Thailand 4.0 initiative to transform Thailand into a value-based economy, he stressed.

At the convention, experts, scientists and enterprises discussed solutions to increase the productivity and quality of rice on the foundation of sustainable development and environment-friendliness. They also urged finding ways to further intensify cooperation among rice exporters and processors, contributing to the stability and growth of the world’s rice market.

On the sidelines of the event, the delegation also organized working sessions with Minister Apiradi Tantraporn and representatives of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, and visited several local rice processing facilities./.
