Vietnam’s dragon fruits get “visa” to enter Japan

Friday, 20/01/2017 18:56
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetables Association has said Japan agreed to allow Vietnamese fresh dragon fruit to be exported to the market.

This is Vietnam’s second fresh fruit receiving permission to ship to Japan after mangoes. Like fresh mangoes, dragon fruit must also be steam-treated before being exported, to counteract fruit flies.

In addition, dragon fruit materials must be collected and bought from plantation areas which strictly obey agricultural production regulations and which were granted management codes by the Plant Protection Department.

Earlier, Australian agriculture officials released their final report on the quality of fresh dragon fruit from Vietnam, said the Australian Embassy in Vietnam.

Dragon fruit and mangoes are two major agricultural products of Vietnam which the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is proposing to develop trademarks for, due to satisfying factors: being produced on large scale with high machine-based level, high volume and consumption value, equal quality and ensured food safety./.
