This year’s show, formerly known as Boston Seafood Show, lured the participation of more than 1,000 exhibitors from over 50 countries and territories around the world.

At the event, Vietnamese seafood companies such as Minh Phu, Hung Vuong, Nghi Son, and Seaprimexco tried to catch the consumption trend of customers, updated requirements on products and signed new contracts with foreign partners.

Mr. David Cohen from Boca Sales Company said he hailed the quality of Vietnamese seafood, while stressing that since the company became a partner of importing seafood from Vietnam he has never received bad feedback on the quality. His company is negotiating to sign a contract to increase the volume of fish shipped from the market in 2019.

While Mr. Dang Dinh Quy, head of Vietnam's Permanent Mission to the UN, said this year, together with the increasing demand of the US market and many free trade agreements in effect, Vietnam’s seafood sector will take driving forces to further develop.

He said market share of Vietnamese companies is still small. Thus, they should cooperate with US producers and importers to create alliances in the production chain; ensuring benefits for Vietnamese producers and creating favorable conditions for the trade process between the two sides to continue.

Ms. To Thi Tuong Lan, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, said the quality of Vietnamese seafood is being appraised at international markets, especially the US. With the world economy in general and the US economy in particular seeing strong prospects, Vietnam is expected to have opportunities to export not only two major commodities, fish and shrimp, but also many other processed products with high added value.

In 2020, seafood consumption is forecast to increase 98.6 million tons at developing countries and 29.2 million tons at developed countries, while the supply only reaches 78.6 million tons. Aiming to catch this chance, with efforts to improve quality, the participation at the show will help promote the Vietnamese seafood brand./.
