In the first four months of this year, Vietnam's shrimp exports to Canada reached USD49.4 million, a year-on-year increase of 31.2%. Particularly in April, shrimp exports to this market increased by nearly 51% to over USD13 million.

As of the first half of May, shrimp export to Canada gained USD54.7 million, presenting an increase of nearly 32% compared to the same period last year. Since the beginning of this year, shrimp exports to Canada saw reduction only in January, while exports in the remaining months grew by double digits.

Vietnam's shrimp exports to Canada grew continuously from 2016 to 2018, down slightly in 2019 and continued to recover positive growth in the first months of this year.

Canada is considered a potential market for Vietnamese shrimp as the Government of Canada is in need of diversifying markets to avoid dependence on imports from the US market and reduce imports from the Chinese market, and Vietnam is one of the countries with which Canadian businesses are interested in promoting import and export activities. Canada is an affordable market for high-value products and an important bridge for Vietnamese businesses to expand their markets to other American countries.

At present, Canada ranks 6th in importing Vietnamese shrimp, accounting for 5.7% of Vietnam’s shrimp exports./.
