Viettel to launch Myanmar’s first 4G network

(CPV) - Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group to open a mobile network in Myanmar on June 9th, 2018, with the brand name of Mytel. This is Viettel’s 10th international market, and the one with the largest population (nearly 53 million people).

The Mytel network, jointly developed by Viettel, Star High Public Company and Myanmar National Telecom Holding Public (MNTH), aims to have at least 2 -3 million subscribers by the end of 2018.

In its first year of business, Mytel invests in telecommunications infrastructure with more than 7,000 mobile broadband (4G) and over 30,000 km of fiber. This is the first and only 4G mobile phone network in Myanmar.

It has a total investment capital of USD1.5 billion, accounting for 66% of Vietnam’s registered capital in the country. With the project, Vietnam jumped to 7th from 10th among 49 countries and territories pouring capital into Myanmar and became the second biggest investor of ASEAN in the country (by June 2017).

In Myanmar, Mytel is the fourth telecom operator, the three other operators being Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications with 42% of market share, Norway’s Teleenor with 35% and Qatar’s Ooredoo with 23%./.
