The Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee has issued a plan to mark the 50th year since the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The plan aims to increase the awareness of cadres, officers and laborers at agencies and social organizations as well as people in the city about the achievements during the past 50 years; the important role of the ASEAN Community; the purpose, values and interests of the community and 3 pillars of the community, making condition for people in the city, especially the business community, to have more understanding about the community, thus exploiting the practical interest that the community brings about.
it also helps people be updated on cooperation in ASEAN, as well as Vietnam’s participation in the community, in order to promote mutual understanding, thus contributing to efforts in joining the community.
Accordingly, from June 15th to December 31st, the city will increase the dissemination of information about important ASEAN events, including the 1st and 2nd ASEAN Summits, the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and other meetings in 2017.
The city will also disseminate information about some important bilateral meetings, celebrations of ASEAN member countries and ASEAN activities held in Vietnam; hold art performances to celebrate the 50th year since the ASEAN founding; and develop activities for ASEAN Week in 2017.
Press agencies will be responsible for regularly covering news on the celebrations, while the city television channels will increase cooperation with television channels from ASEAN member countries in producing documents and reports on ASEAN member countries and people.
The city will develop panels and posters in both Vietnamese and English languages in the populous regions on the celebration, so that people can have deeper understanding about the purpose, values and interests of the ASEAN Community and of each pillar of the community. Besides, all classes of people can easily search information about ASEAN on the websites of the city Party Committee, People’s Committee and Departments, as they are linked with ASEAN column of the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at http://asean.mofa.gov.vn/vi./.
