Minister of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Transport - Public Works Nou Savath said on September 7 that the ministry will hold a meeting to discuss the opening of an additional international border gate with Vietnam, in order to clear the traffic of container trucks due to the serious congestion at the Bavet - Moc Bai border gate.

In the near future, the ministry is expected to lead an inter-ministerial delegation to survey the opening of an international border gate at Prey Vor border gate, Cambodia’s Svay Rieng province and Binh Hiep border gate of Vietnam’s Long An province.

According to Minister of State Savath, in the past, the traffic volume of container vehicles passing through the Bavet - Moc Bai border gate was about 250-300 vehicles per day; however, due to the prevention of COVID-19, only about 70 vehicles passed every day.

Statistics of the Vietnam Embassy in Phnom Penh indicate Vietnam - Cambodia bilateral trade in the first five months of 2020 decreased by about 8.1% from the same period last year, to USD2.17 billion./.
