The 152nd Canadian National Day was marked at a ceremony held by the Canadian Embassy in Hanoi on June 27th.

Vietnam, Canada intensify cooperation in operational audit

Addressing the ceremony, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Deborah Paul said that she was happy to work in Vietnam and contribute to promoting the cooperation between the two countries, and witness the dynamic development and flourishing bilateral cooperation between the two sides. She also confirmed that Vietnam is Canada’s number one trade partner in ASEAN region.

She asserted that the two countries have all necessary conditions to continue to expand and deepen their comprehensive cooperation.

Emphasizing the good traditional relationship between the two countries, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung said that the Vietnam – Canada comprehensive partnership has seen important progress. “Senior leaders regularly meet, most notably Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s official visit to Vietnam in November 2017 and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Canada and his attendance to Quebec Summit in June 2018,” he said.

“Meanwhile, bilateral trade turnover has continuously increased by 20-25% per year, and Vietnam is now an important investment market of Canada, with 174 projects worth over USD5 billion,” Mr. Dung went on to say.

According to Mr. Dung, Vietnam appreciates Canada’s technical support for its small- and medium-sized businesses realizing CPTPP, while impressive development has been seen in defence, education and training, and people-to-people cooperation. “Vietnam and Canada always work closely with each other in regional and international forums,” he said. “As ASEAN Presidency in 2020, Vietnam is willing to help Canada link with ASEAN./.”
