During the meeting, together with signing of memorandum of understanding on cooperation, the two sides discussed cooperation in infrastructure, healthcare, climate change, culture, tourism, education, human resources and agricultural production.
According to a representative from the Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry, Japan is now the country’s leading economic partner, ranking first in official development assistance (ODA) funding, second in foreign direct investment (FDI), third in tourism and fourth in trade exchange. On this basis, the cooperation among Vietnamese and Japanese localities has been on the rise, attracting the two sides’ partners. So far, 35 pairs of Vietnamese and Japanese localities have set up cooperation.
Addressing the meeting, former State President Truong Tan Sang said that it was a good opportunity for the two sides’ delegates to discuss and reach a consensus on orientations and specific measures to promote cooperation among Mekong River Delta localities with Japanese partners, satisfying the aspirations and benefits of both sides./.
