Da Nang increases cooperation with Singapore in diverse areas

As of February 2020, Singapore is the second largest FDI partner of Da Nang city, with a total investment of more than USD800 million. In 2019, Da Nang’s export turnover to Singapore was estimated at USD11 million, up 10% compared to 2018.

So said Huynh Duc Tho, Chairman of the Da Nang city People's Committee, during his reception for Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Catherine Wong Siow on February 11th.

According to Mr. Tho, the city is now cooperating with Singapore’s Surbana Jurong Company for studying and adjusting the city general planning until 2030 and the general planning of the Da Nang Bay area. Meanwhile, some Singaporean investors are carrying out mid-term and short-term investment projects in Da Nang city. “The city is preparing procedures to welcome Singaporean investors,” he said.

Appreciating the model of smart city in Singapore, Mr. Tho expressed his hope that Singaporean investors and consultants would support Da Nang in building smart city.

Noting that Da Nang and Singapore hold great potential for cooperation, especially in tourism, he urged Ambassador Catherine Wong Siow to link the two sides’ businesses for increasing relations.

Ambassador Catherine Wong Siow said as more and more Singapore senior leaders and tourists come to Da Nang, the two sides should study to open more direct aviation routes.

She added that Da Nang is an attractive locality for Singaporean investors and enterprises. “We hope that the city will continue to make favourable conditions for Singaporean enterprises to promote cooperation, thus contributing to deepening ties between Da Nang and Singaporean localities as well as between Vietnam and Singapore,” she said.

She also asserted that the two sides have high potential and opportunities in sharing experience in building smart city./.
