Da Nang increases trade and investment cooperation with Lao localities

Receiving Xuphan Keomixay, Lao Minister of Planning and Investment, on November 12th, Chairman of the Da Nang city People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho gave an introduction about the city’s socio-economic development, as well as its orientation for future development.

Expressing his pleasure with reinforced cooperation between the city and Lao localities, Mr. Tho said that so far, the city had signed 30 cooperative deals with Lao localities, including Vientiane, Savannakhet, Champasak, Sekong, Salavane, Attapeu, Bolikhamxay and Xayaburi, focusing on production, business, cooperation, planning, agriculture, healthcare, education, culture and society.

There are currently four Da Nang’s businesses investing in Laos with an investment of nearly USD52.3 million. In education, since 2002, Da Nang University has received nearly 750 Lao students while in 2018-2019, it is allocating scholarships to 58 Lao students.

According to Mr. Tho, the Central city will continue to increase support in economics, urban areas, agriculture, education and training for southern and central Laos.

He expressed his hope that Lao agencies will make favourable conditions for the city to quickly construct the East-West Economic Corridor No 2 (EWEC2) connecting countries in the region, contributing to promoting the cooperation between Da Nang city in particular and Vietnam in general with Lao localities.

Appreciating Da Nang city’s development, Minister Xuphan Keomixay expressed his joy with the reinforced relationship between the Vietnamese city and Lao localities in investment, trade, education, tourism and culture.

He confirmed that the Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment will work closely with Vietnamese agencies and Da Nang city to promote economic and investment relationship, and increase cooperation in ensuring defence and security in border areas./.
