(CPV) – The Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building and the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade on June 18th signed an agreement on enhanced cooperation in the energy sector with a focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
The major activity to be implemented after the signing of the agreement is a development of a new strategic energy analysis for Vietnam. Danish experts will work with Vietnamese agencies and institutes to help to develop a comprehensive model for the analysis and optimization of the power system in Vietnam.
Stressing the importance of the agreement, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen said that “Denmark is recognized worldwide as a role model when it comes to energy efficiency and renewable energy”, and that “We will support Vietnams transition into a more green economy”.
The agreement opens a new door for direct cooperation in terms of exchange of experiences, capacity building and bilateral contacts between the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building and the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade.
“The demand for energy will increase across all sectors and industries in Vietnam in the coming years. Vietnam will therefore have to implement sustainable policies which promote the use of renewable energy, energy efficiency and the introduction of cleaner technology,” the Danish Ambassador added.
According to Cao Quoc Hung, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, to establish a long-term cooperation program between the two countries in terms of energy, the two sides agreed to build up a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the ministry and the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building.
Since 2011, Vietnam and Denmark have established a strategic partnership in climate change, environment, energy and green growth. The two countries have also initiated a long-term dialogue on low carbon transformation in energy area in Vietnam, and supported the Vietnam Energy Efficiency Program (VNEEP)./.
