Deputy PM Binh Minh pays official visit to Russian Federation

At the invitation of the Russian Federation’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh is paying an official visit to the Russian Federation from November 23rd-25th.

The visit aims to review and assess the bilateral cooperation in realizing high-ranking deals, and work out orientations to promote cooperation in the future which focuses on implementing the Vietnam-Eurasia Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (VN-EAEU FTA).

During the visit, the two sides will also discuss regional and international issues of common concern.

The Vietnam - Russian Federation comprehensive strategic partnership has been reinforced and increased with high political trust over the past time. The two sides have effectively carried out priority missions in 2016; maintained the strategic dialogue mechanism at the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Minister of National Defence level; and continue to strongly work together and support each other at international and regional forums.

In terms of economic and trade cooperation, trade turnover in the first 8 months of this year reached USD1.78 billion, a year-on-year increase of 25%. There are currently 114 Russian projects in Vietnam with an amount of USD2 billion in registered capital.

Cultural exchanges have regularly been organized while the cooperation in science, technology, education and training, culture and tourism have been enhanced, in which Russia has continued to increase the number of university and postgraduate scholarships for Vietnam.

Meanwhile, cooperation among Vietnamese and Russian localities has been actively carried out; notably in Vietnam’s light industrial zone in Moscow./.
