Deputy Prime Minister tours European countries

At the invitation of the Governments of the Netherlands, Ireland and UK, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung is leading a delegation to pay official visits to the three countries from April 18th-27th.

Accordingly, the Deputy Prime Minister is visiting the Netherlands from April 18th-20th, Ireland from April 21st-23rd and the UK from April 24th-27th.

In the Netherlands, besides his chairmanship of the 6th meeting of the Vietnam – Netherlands Inter-governmental Committee on climate change adaptation and water management, the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister is expected to meet with Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte and some members of the Dutch Government, and visit some infrastructure projects and seaports to view their strategies on coping with climate change.

The Netherlands is one of Vietnam’s leading economic, trade and investment partners from Europe, with two-way trade turnover of over USD6.68 billion in 2016. The Netherlands’ investment in Vietnam reaches USD7.61 billion, making it the biggest European investor in Vietnam. In the 40 years since the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic ties, especially the establishment of strategic partnership on climate change adaptation and water management in 2010 and the strategic partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security in 2014, the relationship between the two countries has developed well and grows more and more deeply on all areas. The Netherlands considers Vietnam a priority partner. The two sides have identified 5 priorities for cooperation in climate change adaptation and water management, agriculture, energy, maritime economy and transport services.

Implementing the strategic partnership on climate change adaptation and water management, the two sides have organized 5 Inter-governmental Committee meetings to exchange on issues relating to climate, natural resources and environment cooperation, especially the Mekong Delta Plan, which had been carried out since 2013.

The two sides consider plantation, breeding, veterinary, smart agricultural models and agriculture science as among cooperation fields in realizing the strategic partnership in sustainable agriculture and food security./.
