On November 12th, Standing Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu received a delegation from Spain’s Catalonia region led by Damia Calvet I Valera, Minister of Territory and Sustainability of Catalonia, who is on a visit to Hanoi.

Informing the delegation of Hanoi’s socio-economic development situation, Mr. Suu confirmed that Hanoi is actively learning from the experience of urban areas and localities for more effective and sustainable development.

Noting that Catalonia shares similarities with Hanoi, he added that the two sides hold great potential for cooperation, including urban traffic and investment in infrastructure development, which are Hanoi’s current challenges. Quoting the Hanoi program of planting 1 million trees in 2016-2020, he asserted that the Vietnamese city always looks towards sustainable development and improvement of residents’ lives, along with its rapid development.

Expressing his thanks to Hanoi for the warm welcome, Mr. Damia Calvet I Valera said that one of his delegation’s purposes is to link the relationship between Barcelona Port with Vietnam’s large ones, thus promoting import-export activities.

Confirming that the two cities share common targets in sustainable development and adaptation of climate change, he said that Barcelona city and Catalonia regional authorities are willing to expand new cooperation with Hanoi in diverse areas, including urban planning and management, infrastructure, public transport, environment and sustainable development.

“We are ready to share the experience of Barcelona - a leading model of sustainable development and worth living - with Hanoi,” he added./.
