HCMC appreciates Vietnam - US comprehensive partnership

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, during a reception for the US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink on January 17th, appreciated the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the US, especially after President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam.

According to Secretary Nhan, the US is training 22,000 Vietnamese students for Vietnam, saying that the students play a role as ambassadors between the two countries.

Expressing his hope that the two countries would promote a cooperation program on start-up, he added that the cooperation was among important contents reached as a result of his visit to the US in December 2017. “The building of Fulbright University will serve start-up programs and the development of a smart city,” he went on to say. “Ho Chi Minh city plans to link district 2’s financial centre with district 9’s hi-tech centre and Thu Duc district’s 10 universities, which needs planning and investment from the US”.

He also spoke highly of two-way security cooperation which he said contributed to maintaining peace, maritime security and freedom in the region.

Asserting that US President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to US helped deepen the bilateral relationship, promote security, trade and economic cooperation, and enhance people-to-people diplomacy, US Ambassador Kritenbrink said he hoped more and more US investors would come to Vietnam and more and more Vietnamese students to US.

He said he was willing to link education between the US and Ho Chi Minh city, and encourage US businesses to carry out start-up programs and the development of a smart city.

The Ambassador also pledged to support Vietnam in ensuring maritime security and addressing the consequences after the war.

Mr Kritenbrink is paying a survey trip to Bien Hoa airport for dioxin detoxification and continuing bilateral programs in seeking US and Vietnamese missing in action during war./.
