On September 14th, Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem attended a gala dinner for delegates of the APEC Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministerial Meeting.

Addressing the gala, Mr. Liem appreciated the ministers for their active discussions and important initiatives which help increase the strength and potential of SMEs in APEC economies.
He stressed that, as the meeting host, Ho Chi Minh city benefits from the solutions worked out by the ministers. “Ho Chi Minh city’s economy sees the active participation from SMEs, given strength by the start-up community, together with the Internet and digital technology revolution, will further develop,” he said.
According to Mr. Liem, Ho Chi Minh city targets to establish 500,000 enterprises by 2020. At present, the city has some 270,000 registered enterprises and over 280,000 individual traders which are able to become SMEs. “The city authority is willing to listen to and share challenges and opportunities with the enterprises,” Mr. Liem stressed.
He showed his belief that as host of APEC meeting, Ho Chi Minh city has the chance to access experience from APEC member economies, which will help satisfy the demand of the SME community. “We will continue to go along with enterprises, and make dynamic renewal become a characteristic of the city’s economy,” he added./.
