Ho Chi Minh city increases cooperation with Australian city

Pham Duc Hai, Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Council, has said that the city attached importance to promoting cooperation with Australian localities on the basis of the well developed Vietnam - Australia strategic partnership.

He made the statement during his reception for Tom Tate, Mayor of the city of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, on May 22nd.

According to Mr. Hai, transport and response to climate change were among challenges that Ho Chi Minh city was facing. “The city is ready to work together with the city of Gold Coast in tourism development and learn from its experience in the fields of its strength”, he said, pledging that the city would provide the best conditions for foreign businesses, including those from Gold Coast city, to come to do long-term business.

Introducing his city, Mayor Tom Tate said that Gold Coast city has fast economic growth and strong potential in tourism, education, and high technology development. “It hopes to increase cooperation with Ho Chi Minh city in its strong areas such as tourism, education, waste treatment, and energy, and turn the cooperative potential into practical projects,” he added.

Confirming that the city of Gold Coast is successful in preventing and combating flooding, Mayor Tom Tate went on to say that the city is willing to share its experience in responding to climate change, managing urban transport systems, and planning urban infrastructure with the Vietnamese city.

He showed his expectation for opening a direct flight route between Ho Chi Minh city and Gold Coast to help boost the cities’ partnership in tourism and education.

Lying in Australia’s eastern coast, the city of Gold Coast is seen as a tourism centre of the state of Queensland, receiving 13 million tourists in 2018.

It has three universities of international standard and now home of some 35,000 foreign students./.
