Dinh La Thang, Politburo member and Secretary of the city Party Committee, appreciated the visit by the delegation of the Lao locality, as the two countries are celebrating the 55th year since the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 40th year since the signing of the Vietnam – Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty, contributing to developing the traditional relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, making them invaluable assets of the two Parties, States and peoples.

Addressing the talks, Vansay Phengsumma, Governor of Houaphanh and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, highly spoke of the assistance from Ho Chi Minh city for Houaphanh province in infrastructure construction, economics, education and the training of human resources, expressing his hope that Ho Chi Minh city would continue to support his province in its socio-economic development, and encourage Ho Chi Minh city’s businesses to invest in Houaphanh province.

After the talks, leaders from the two localities agreed to increase friendship and cooperative relations. Regarding economic cooperation, the two localities reached a consensus to make favourable conditions for agencies and businesses to increase investment in infrastructure, agriculture and tourism, while attracting investment from third countries to the two localities.

The two localities’ leaders also agreed to increase cooperation in culture and society, especially in education, healthcare, information and tourism. In particular, each year, Ho Chi Minh city will consider granting 10 scholarships to Houaphanh province; and hold training courses for cadres in terms of external relations, foreign investment management and trade administration. Meanwhile, Houaphanh province will present Ho Chi Minh city 2 scholarships in Lao language interpretation each year./.
