Ho Chi Minh city leaders pay working visit to Laos

A delegation of Ho Chi Minh city leaders led by Tat Thanh Cang, 12th PCC member and Standing Deputy Secretary of the city Party Committee, on July 25th started a working visit to Laos.

During a meeting with Bounthong Divixay, member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Laos’ Champasak provincial Party Committee and Chief of the province, Mr. Cang said that his delegation’s visit aimed to confirm Ho Chi Minh city’s efforts and will in reinforcing and increasing the friendly and cooperative relationship between Ho Chi Minh city and Champasak province in particular and between the Vietnamese city and Lao localities in general.

The visit was part of activities marking the 55th anniversary of Vietnam - Laos diplomatic relations (September 5th) and 40th year since the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18th).

Mr. Cang expressed his hope that the two localities would share experience in Party building and the activities of People’s Council; and promote tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in general, and between Ho Chi Minh city and Champasak province in particular.

According to Mr. Bounthong Divixay, the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh city and Champasak province has reported positive progress in recent years, especially in education as Ho Chi Minh city grants 630 scholarships to the Lao province, in medicine plant project, Ho Chi Minh city’s assistance in supporting victims of natural disasters and in building a cultural palace. “The assistance has contributed to boosting Champasak province’s economic development,” he said.

The two localities’ leaders agreed that the two sides would promote the implementation of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the 2016-2020 period, focusing on exchanging delegations, sharing experience in the operation of People’s Council, and discussing cooperation in cell tissue culture, microbiological technology and biological products. Champasak province will continue to make favourable conditions for Ho Chi Minh city’s investment projects in Laos.

Earlier, the Vietnamese delegation attended the opening ceremony of the event “Ho Chi Minh city Days in Champasak 2017” which will last until July 27th./.
