Ho Chi Minh city, Philippines increase trade cooperation

Receiving the Under-Secretary for the Industry Development and Trade Policy Group of the Philippines, Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem on June 20th appreciated the Vietnam - Philippines strategic partnership, which is developing well in politics, culture, economics and trade.

The cooperation between the two countries is being expanded in diverse areas and they are working together closely in regional and international forums, especially within ASEAN. The two countries have regularly exchanged high ranking delegations, with the most recently being the visit to Vietnam by the Philippines President last November, during his attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

According to Mr. Liem, the working visit by Mr. Ceferino S. Rodolf to Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh city, will contribute to increasing investment and trade cooperation, and assisting businesses of the two countries seek new cooperation opportunities.

Showing his admiration of Ho Chi Minh city’s dynamic development, Mr. Ceferino S. Rodolfo said that his visit to Vietnam aimed to increase cooperation between the two countries’ businesses, including those from Ho Chi Minh city.

He added that the Philippines attached great importance to the relationship with Vietnam and hoped to further promote the cooperation with the country, including trade and investment cooperation with the city.

As of May 2018, Ho Chi Minh City had 34 Philippines-invested projects with a total capital of nearly USD26 million, ranking 36th among 96 investing nations and territories. Last year, two-way trade reached USD676 million, an increase of 6% compared to 2016./.
