Ho Chi Minh city receives over USD75 million from foreign NGO assistance

In 2017, the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee agreed with Vietnamese partners to receive assistance worth over USD48.6 million from foreign non-governmental organizations (FNGOs), while as of late May this year, over USD27.2 million from FNGOs’ assistance was also allocated in the city.

The figures were announced during an annual meeting with FNGOs held by the FNGOs working group on June 7th.

According to the city Union of Friendship Organizations, there are 160 FNGOs licensed in the city, including 67 from America, 61 from Europe, 30 from Asia – Pacific region and 2 from Africa.

The assistance projects focus on healthcare, scientific research in healthcare, education, training, child care, disabled and disadvantaged people.

Additionally, the city Union of Friendship Organizations has encouraged FNGOs to donate VND1.2 billion to give Tet presents to 1,824 poor people and 605 mid-Autumn presents to disadvantaged children.

“FNGOs’ assistance projects and programs have helped support the lives of communities, increase understanding and solidarity, as well as friendship between the city’s residents and peoples around the world,” said Huynh Minh Thien, President of the city Union of Friendship Organizations./.
