He made the statement during his October 22nd reception for a delegation of Changwon city authorities and businesses led by Kim Jong Hwan, Head of the city Administrative Organization Department, on a visit to Da Nang city.

According to Mr. Minh, in the first half of this year, Da Nang city’s export turnover to the RoK was estimated at USD17 million, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%, while import turnover from the RoK to the city was estimated at USD36.5 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%.

There are some 144 Korean investment projects in Da Nang city, capitalized at over USD600 million.

Noting that Da Nang and Changwon cities share a lot of similarities in terms of area, infrastructure and orientations in tourism, high technology and environment development, Mr. Minh expressed his hope that the convenient conditions would help the two sides share experience for mutual development, especially in areas of concern for both sides, such as infrastructure, commerce, industry, urban planning, and the building of environment friendly cities.

He added that over the past years, the Vietnamese city had focused its investment in spearhead economic sectors, including tourism, commerce, logistics, information and technology, with the future focus being on high technology and innovation.

Expressing his strong impression of Da Nang city’s development, Mr. Kim Jong Hwan said he hoped the two localities would continue to increase cooperative activities, including exchanging delegations and carrying out cooperative activities in administration, economics, education and culture.

He revealed that Changwon city would consider the establishment of a Korean language library at the College of Foreign Studies under Da Nang University, thus making conditions for Vietnamese students to study the Korean language and opening opportunities for jobs in Korean companies.

He also confirmed that Changwon city’s authorities would continue to boost cooperation in tourism with Da Nang city.

Being considered RoK’s “Silicon Valley”, Changwon city sees the operation of a series of global businesses such as Doosan Heavy, LG, Samsung and GM.

It signed a memorandum of understanding on increasing friendly and cooperative relationship for sustainable development with Da Nang city in 2014./.
