Indian Independence Day marked in Ho Chi Minh city

The Ho Chi Minh city Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam – India Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh city held a meeting on August 14th to mark the 70th anniversary of the Indian Independence Day (August 15th).

Addressing the meeting, Ms Ho Thi Trinh Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam - India Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh city, said that the day of August 15th, 1947, marked the founding of an independent and sovereign Indian State, opening up a period for the country to become a modern and prosperous country which now reports the dynamic development and holds influence in the region and in the world.

She stressed that Vietnam and India have become trusted partners with cooperation increasingly developing in diverse areas, including politics, economics, technology, defence and security.

During the meeting, Ms Smita Pant, Indian General Consul to Ho Chi Minh city, said that Indian Independence Day was an important mark in history, marking the beginning of the country which has become the third largest economy in Asia, and having has made large contributions to peace, stability and development of the region and the world.

Thanking the good affection that people in Ho Chi Minh city for their good affection put aside for India, she stressed that in 2017, to mark the 45th anniversary of the Vietnam - India diplomatic relationship and 10th anniversary of the two countries’ strategic partnership, they have been organising diverse cooperative and friendship activities, especially the exchanges of delegations, cultural exchanges and economic and defence cooperation, bringing practical benefits for the two peoples./.
