Insignia presented to WB Country Director for Vietnam

Over the past years, thanks to the support of Ms Victoria Kwakwa and WB officials, Vietnam’s agriculture and rural development sector has received great assistance from WB through preferential loans from the International Development Association (IDA), the loan granted for poor and developing countries.

“Since Ms Victoria Kwakwa took office in Vietnam, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has had access to some USD1.95 billion in WB assistance for agriculture, forestry, irrigation, safe water supply in rural areas, and the prevention of natural disasters,” said Minister Phat. “The assistance has been an important part of capital sources for agricultural development.”

Under the leadership of Ms Victoria Kwakwa, MARD received assistance commitments for 2017, including a project to modernize the forestry sector and increase the sustainability of coastal areas in the Red River Delta and north-central regions, a project to support the program on building new style rural areas, and a project to increase the scientific and technological ability and train human resources serving the re-structuring of the agricultural sector and the program on building new style rural areas.

Ms Victoria Kwakwa thanked MARD for building conditions to address problems arising in agriculture and rural development, including climate change, drought, salt intrusion and dyke safety, especially the re-structuring of the agricultural sector to positively change the face of the Vietnamese agricultural sector.

She also expressed her thanks to agricultural officers to spend time with WB reaching localities to study farmers’ and agricultural sector’s difficulties./.
