Located in Saboshi city, Nagasaki prefecture, the University of Nagasaki is the study destination for more than 2,800 students, including 30 foreign students.

According to Mr. Tsutomu Kimura, Rector of the University of Nagasaki, in recent years, there has been a sharp increase in the number of Vietnamese people living in Nagasaki prefecture, making it the largest foreign group in Nagasaki. “We are issuing policies to further attract Vietnamese students,” he said.

Accordingly, the university is applying a tuition fee exemption and reduction policy. Among 8 Vietnamese students in the university, 7 students do not have to pay tuition fees, while the rest are supported for half of the tuition.

Besides, the Nagasaki prefectural authority and many other organizations in the prefecture also make efforts to help the university attract more Vietnamese students. Specifically, in April, the Nagasaki prefectural authority cooperated with Goto city and the University of Nagasaki to establish a Goto Japanese Language School exclusively for Vietnamese students before entering the University of Nagasaki.

The Nagasaki International Exchange Association has set up a one-stop counseling department in 18 languages, including Vietnamese, and offered scholarships of JPY 15,000 per person per month to self-funded international students, while the association has also provided daily expenses worth JPY10,000 for each of international students.

Since 2019, the University of Nagasaki has cooperated with the Vietnamese Da Nang city to hold an entrance contest, creating conditions for Vietnamese students to go to the university for study./.
