He had talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and meetings with Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong as well as National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, before meeting with the two countries’ businesses.

Noting that the visit was accompanied by representatives from 70 Dutch businesses, he said some cooperation agreements had been signed with Vietnamese partners in agriculture, water management, wind energy and logistics. “The visit is very helpful as it contributes to increasing the relationship between the two countries,” he said.

Sharing his viewpoint on future key cooperation areas between the two countries, he said that apart from the traditional agricultural sector, they would increase cooperation in other fields such as water management, energy and logistics. “The Netherlands can bring diverse modern technologies to Vietnam in these areas,” he added.

Confirming that the bilateral cooperation is developing strongly, especially in economics, he expressed his confidence that the economic, trade and investment relations will be strengthened after the visit.

According to the Dutch Prime Minister, the Netherlands is currently the largest investor from the EU in Vietnam, with some USD9.55 billion in registered capital. It is also Vietnam’s second largest EU trade partner, after Germany, with bilateral trade turnover of USD7.8 billion in 2018.

He went on to say that many Dutch businesses are doing good business in Vietnam and set up good relationships with Vietnamese partners, while many others are seeking investment opportunities in Vietnam and more and more Dutch businesses want to expand investment in Vietnam; therefore, there will be a sharp increase in the number of Dutch businesses in Vietnam in the upcoming time.

He agreed that the European Union − Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) which is expected to be signed this year will create new impetus for trade and investment between Vietnam and the Netherlands.

Talking about sustainable development cooperation, he confirmed that the Netherlands can share experience with Vietnam and support the country in carrying out existing policies and developing new ones. “The two sides discussed opportunities for improving Vietnam’s logistics sector, developing waterways traffic in the Mekong River Delta, and modernizing seaports,” he said./.
