Philippines appreciates Vietnamese Government’s effectiveness in COVID-19 fight

The Philippines’ Foreign Minister Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. highly appreciated the effectiveness of the Government of Vietnam in fighting COVID-19, and pledged to continue working closely with and supporting Vietnam to successfully undertake the positions of both ASEAN Chair and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

He made the statement during his phone conversation with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on March 30th, in which the two leaders discussed bilateral and regional cooperation in the context of the complex development of COVID-19.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh thanked the Philippines and Minister Locsin for the support and coordination for Vietnam as ASEAN Chair 2020, especially in promoting cooperation in coping with COVID- 19.

Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister expressed his confidence that joint determination and efforts will help ASEAN member countries to promptly overcome challenges, maintain socio-economic stability and continue to accelerate the process of building ASEAN Community.

The Philippines’ Foreign Minister Locsin highly appreciated the Vietnamese Government’s effective efforts in fighting COVID-19, as well as its cooperative initiatives in response to the disease in the position of ASEAN Chair 2020.

“The Philippines is committed to continuing to work closely with and support Vietnam to successfully undertake the positions of both ASEAN Chair and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council,” he said.

The two sides agreed to continue their efforts to deepen the Philippines-Vietnam strategic partnership in all areas, including cooperation on health, trade, investment and food security; as well as increased cooperation in regional and international issues, including the East Sea issue./.
