Promoting comprehensive cooperation between Da Nang city and EU

Chairman of the Da Nang city People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho on May 24th received Ambassador Bruno Angelet, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, during his visit to the city.

During the reception, Chairman Tho gave an introduction of Da Nang’s socio-economic achievements over the past years, and its development orientations for the future, which focus on external economic relations, tourism services, hi-tech industry, information and technology, urban infrastructure and the training of human resources.

Regarding the cooperation between Da Nang city and EU members, Chairman Tho said that the relationship had been reinforced and developed. Between 2015 and 2017, many EU delegations visited Da Nang city. In addition, since 2011, Da Nang has sent several leaders to visit and work in the EU.

According to Chairman Tho, the import-export turnover has increased year by year. In particular, the European Commission has recently sponsored over VND9 billion for a solar energy development project in Da Nang city which will be carried out from this July to April 2020.

He expressed his hope that Ambassador Bruno Angelet would be a bridge in building the comprehensive cooperation between the city and EU members, calling on businesses in the EU cooperate and invest in commerce, hi-tech, human resources and alternative energy.

Ambassador Bruno Angelet showed his impression of the development of Da Nang city, adding that besides cooperation in healthcare and education, the EU delegation in Vietnam has recently worked with the the city centre on energy saving and consultancy in technological transfer to increase the development of and research on clean energy, especially solar energy.

He also said he hoped to work with the city authorities to hold workshops on urban administration and the building of smart city, and on discussion on the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement.

Chairman Tho and Ambassador Bruno Angelet agreed to promote cooperation in the upcoming time so that EU businesses seek investment opportunities in Da Nang city. Meanwhile, the city will make the most favourable conditions for the EU delegation in Vietnam to carry out projects, especially in energy, healthcare and education./.
