The information was announced during a meeting held in Ho Chi Minh City on July 11th by the city Union of Friendship Organizations, to mark the 230th Bastille Day, or the National Day of France (July 14th).

Addressing the meeting, President of the Vietnam-France Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh city Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung confirmed that the diplomatic, friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and France had seen strong development in diverse areas.

According to Ms Dung, at the local level, the relationship between Ho Chi Minh city and France has been expanded. “There are currently 252 French investment projects worth over USD261 million in the city, ranking 15th among over 106 countries and territories investing in the city,” she said.

She also noted that Ho Chi Minh city and Lyon city, as well as Rhone-Alpes region of France, have conducted many cooperative projects in urban planning, officer training and artistic lighting.

Additionally, French non-governmental organizations have actively participated in carrying out many projects and programs in social development, education, agriculture, health care, and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Expressing his pleasure with the cooperative relationship between the two countries in education and culture, French Consul General to Ho Chi Minh city Vincent Floreani said that France is currently sharing partnership with many countries in the world, including Vietnam, adding that over the years, Vietnam and France have conducted many important activities to reinforce the sound bilateral ties.

He told Vietnam News Agency that a large number of French people are living in Vietnam, mostly in Ho Chi Minh city, and that the two sides have cooperated in many areas, including economy, culture and education.

In 2018, the number of Vietnamese students in France rose 40 percent, while the number of French students in Vietnam is also increasing, he said./.
