Russia assists Vietnam with USD5 million for addressing storm damage

Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 7th allocated some USD5 million to help Vietnam overcome the consequences of Storm Damrey.

In addition, a plane carrying aid in goods is soon to take off from Russia to assist Vietnamese storm hit people.

Speaking to the media, the Russian President’s spokesperson said that Russia mobilized all agencies’ efforts and necessary material for the relief, expressing his hope that Russia’s humanitarian initiative will be welcomed.

Russia calls on the global community, including those attending the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Vietnam, to show solidarity with Vietnamese people, he said.

According to Mr. Dmitry Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev, Minister of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief Vladimir Puchkov, and Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov about damages caused by the storm in Vietnam.

So far, Storm Damrey has killed 69 and left 30 missing, forcing tens of thousands of people to be evacuated, and destroyed over 120,700 houses.

It also damaged transport infrastructure and left many areas without power./.
