Speaking at the forum, Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem appreciated the organization of the forum, which he said would help Tatarstan’s businesses better understand Ho Chi Minh city’s economic situation, as well as the city’s priorities, thus working out suitable investment strategies for the benefit of both sides.

According to Mr. Liem, 13 businesses joining the delegation of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan to Ho Chi Minh city are working in banking, agriculture, information and technology, logistics, aviation services and healthcare - areas where Ho Chi Minh city wants to cooperate.

“In addition, Ho Chi Minh city needs assistance from foreign partners, including Tatarstan’s businesses, to tackle problems during its development, including overloaded infrastructure, traffic jams and climate change,” he added.

During the forum, Russian General Consul to Ho Chi Minh city Aleksey Popov confirmed that the cooperation between Russia’s regions and localities with Vietnamese ones had made important contribution to the two countries’ traditional and friendly relationship. “To obtain the goal of USD20 billion in the two countries’ trade turnover by 2020, cooperation between localities will help, and cooperation will attract not only big businesses, but also small- and medium-sized ones,” he said.

According to Russian General Consul to Ho Chi Minh city Aleksey Popov, over the past years, the relationship between Russian localities and Vietnamese ones, especially Vietnam's southern localities, has been expanded, with Ho Chi Minh city being an important partner.

Addressing the forum, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said his visit hoped to open up new cooperation for Vietnam and Tatarstan, and the forum would create opportunities for the two sides’ businesses to study cooperation, thus promoting economic and trade cooperation. “Tatarstan is willing to boost cooperation with Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh city, in its key sectors such as shipbuilding technology, petrochemistry, engine manufacturing, industrial and agricultural complex, information and technology, pharmacy, healthcare and education.

A memorandum of understanding on cooperation was signed at the forum between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Tatarstan Chamber of Commerce, to promote information exchange in supporting businesses studying the market, increasing access to Vietnam’s and Tatarstan’s investment policies, and linking businesses./.
