UNESCO chief praises strengthened ties with Vietnam

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova lauded strong cooperation with Vietnam while receiving credentials from Tran Thi Hoang Mai, the first female head of the Vietnam Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, in Paris on September 28th.


Bokova also thanked the Vietnamese Government for hosting her visit last August.

For her part, the Vietnamese diplomat stressed UNESCO’s multi-sector projects has contributed to sustainable growth in Vietnam.

Relations between the two sides are fruitful, particularly in culture, Mai added, sharing her wish for the cooperation to expand to tap the potential in the fields of science, education and information.

She said Vietnam has made practical contributions to the UNESCO by actively engaging in the organisation’s World Heritage Committee and Executive Board, and by sending experts to work for the UNESCO.

Mai vowed to do her best to cement the friendship and partnership between Vietnam and the UNESCO and to boost Vietnam’s involvement in the organisation’s operation during her tenure./.
