(CPV) - US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink on February 5th made a sticky rice cake by himself, the typical traditional cakes in Vietnam during the lunar New Year festival.

According to the US Ambassador, he ate sticky rice cakes earlier; however, he had never learned how to make and cook them.

Under the guidance of craftswoman Anh Tuyet, the US diplomat was eager and quick to make a good quality cake before learning how to cut a cake into pieces, using tiny bamboo strings.

Main materials for the cakes include dong leaves, sticky rice, pork and green bean.

After hearing about sticky rice cakes in combination with Vietnamese culture and witnessing craftswoman Anh Tuyet’s guidance, the US Ambassador skilfully follows different steps in making a sticky rice cake…

… from the rice layer…

… to the bean layer…

… and the pork layer…

… before wrapping it.

The US Ambassador cleverly tightens the cake using bamboo strings.

He is excited with his product.

He’s a wonderful maker as an experienced Vietnamese one,” said Ms Tuyet.
Putting the cake into the pot in a correct way for cooking

He is surprised to see how the cake is cut into pieces using tiny bamboo strings, not a knife.
Enjoying Vietnamese food used in combination with the cake, including pork pie, salt onion and fish sauce, he says he is really impressed by the country’s Tet culture./.
