US Independence Day celebrated in Ho Chi Minh city

“With the encouraging results achieved over the past time, the relationship between Ho Chi Minh city and the US will continue to gain greater achievements, contributing to strengthening the bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the US.”

So said Le Thanh Liem, Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee, during a meeting to celebrate the 242nd anniversary of the US Independence Day (July 4th) held by the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh city on June 14th.

According to Mr. Liem, throughout historic ups and downs, the Vietnam – US relationship has made long progress with an important milestone in establishing the comprehensive partnership during Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang’s visit to the US in 2013. US President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam in November, 2017 was evidence confirming the US long-term and persistent policy in reinforcing and deepening the relationship with Vietnam,

He stressed that as an economic, cultural and technological hub of the country, Ho Chi Minh city has been carrying out diverse cooperative activities in trade, investment, education and healthcare. “With the two sides’ goodwill and efforts, the Vietnam – US comprehensive partnership, including the Ho Chi Minh city – US relationship, will continue to develop, fulfilldeserving the expectations of the two sides’ leaders and peoples,” he said. “The US now ranks 10th among foreign investors in Ho Chi Minh city, with 390 projects worth over USD1.2 billion.”

Addressing the meeting, US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink asserted that the celebration is a chance to honour the friendship and community relationship, and review the increasingly developed partnership between the two countries.

He also stressed that the US paid great attention to the Indian Ocean – Pacific region, and that the US was impressed by the success of Vietnam. Over the past time, two US Presidents visited Vietnam, together with the expansion in trade, investment and security relationship.
