Saying thanks to Ho Chi Minh city’s leaders for making favourable conditions for the operation of the Australian General Consulate in the city, Ms Karen Lanyon said she believed that the cooperation between Australia and Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh city, would develop well.

So far, Australia is Vietnam’s 8th largest trade partner, with the two-way trade turnover reaching nearly USD6.5 billion in 2017, an increase of 22.9% compared to 2016.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem highlighted steps of development between the two countries, especially when they upgraded the relationship to a strategic partnership in March.

According to Mr. Liem, there are currently 176 Australian projects worth nearly USD184 million in Ho Chi Minh city, while cooperation projects between universities in the city and Australian partners in human resources training have been actively carried out.

He also expressed his belief that the Vietnam - Australia cooperative relationship would be further reinforced for the two countries’ prosperity and development./.
