Vietnam - Australia relationship sustainable and developed

The Ho Chi Minh city Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) on January 22nd worked with the city’s Vietnam - Australia Friendship Association to hold a meeting to mark the 231st anniversary of the National Day of Australia (January 26th).

Addressing the meeting, Chairman of the city’s Vietnam - Australia Friendship Association Luong Van Ly said that over the past years, the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Australia had been reinforced and developed in all areas, including politics, economics, trade, investment, security - defence, culture, education and tourism, especially since the establishment of the comprehensive partnership in September 2009.

In trade, Vietnam is Australia’s 5th partner among ASEAN member countries, while Australia is Vietnam’s 7th largest trade partner, with two-way trade turnover increasing by over 7% each year, at USD5.72 billion as of September 2018. There are 425 Australian projects worth over USD1.84 billion in Vietnam, ranking 19 of 128 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Meanwhile, Vietnamese investors are carrying out 47 FDI projects worth USD255.8 million in Australia.  

During the meeting, Australian Consul-General to Ho Chi Minh city Julianne Cowley stressed the friendly and cooperative relationship between Australia and Vietnam in general, and between Australian people and Ho Chi Minh city’s people, had continued to develop in all areas, adding that Australia hoped to increase cooperation with Vietnam, especially in education and training, infrastructure and agriculture.

She expressed her hope that VUFO and the Vietnam - Australia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh city will work closely with the Australian Consulate General in carrying out cooperative activities, thus bringing benefits to the two peoples./.
