Vietnam increases defence cooperation with UK

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Party Central Committee member and Deputy Minister of National Defence, on October 2nd received the UK Parliamentarians’ Group led by Wayne David, Chairperson of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Vietnam of the UK, on a visit to Vietnam.

Talking about the good bilateral defence cooperation between Vietnam and the UK, Mr. Vinh stressed that the Vietnamese Government and Ministry of National Defence are satisfied with the cooperation.

He expressed his thanks to the UK for its support to Vietnam’s level 2 field hospital in South Sudan, asking for increased defence cooperation in the future, especially in training for peacekeeping activities, maritime security, cooperation at multilateral forums, contributing to peace and stability in the region, as well as benefiting each country.

For his part, Mr. Wayne David stressed that the UK had been promoting defence cooperation with countries, including Vietnam.

Appreciating Vietnam’s prestige in the international arena, he expressed his pleasure with the good defence relationship between the two countries, adding that the level 2 field hospital in South Sudan was only the initial step, and that Vietnam would continue to make positive contribution to UN peacekeeping activities./.
