Vietnam, Kuwait hold third political consultation

Vietnam calls on Kuwaiti investors to expand cooperation in building infrastructure, developing agricultural production, mining and producing power.

In realization of the agreement between the Vietnamese and Kuwaiti Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vu Hong Nam and Kuwait Assistant Foreign Minister Ali Suleiman Al-Saeed co-chaired the third Vietnam - Kuwait political consultation in Hanoi on March 19th.

During the consultation, the two sides expressed satisfaction about the development of the bilateral friendship over the past years, including the maintenance of exchanges, visits, and mutual support at regional and global forums such as the Non-Aligned Movement and the United Nations, and reinforcing economic, commercial, investment, labour, and education-training cooperation.

They agreed to continue exchanges of delegations at all levels, promote the efficiency of the existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms like the Vietnam-Kuwait Joint Committee and political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries, creating a new impetus for multilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides stressed that it is necessary to increase cooperation in economics to increase trade exchange, investment, ODA and labour collaboration by enhancing information exchange on trade policies and opportunities; encouraging and making favourable conditions for businesses from the two countries to link partnership, join trade promotion, fairs and trade exhibition; and signing labour cooperation deals.

Apart from Kuwait’s investment of USD9 billion in the Nghi Son Oil Refinery in the central province of Thanh Hoa, Vietnam called on Kuwaiti investors to expand investment in other areas, including infrastructure construction, agriculture, mining, power generation, and the construction of food and seafood processing plants to Halal standards for export to Muslim markets.

The two sides also exchanged view-points on the global and regional situations of common concern, such as security and development in Southeast Asia, the prospects for settlement of some “hotspots” in the Middle East, and the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council cooperation. Regarding the settlement of disputes among nations, especially territorial disputes, the two nations agreed that the disputes must be addressed based on international laws./.
