Vietnam, Laos increase medical cooperation

The Vietnamese Government and people always support the Lao Government and people during its national construction, making favorable conditions for cooperative programs and activities in all areas, including medical cooperation.

So confirmed Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam during his reception for Lao Minister of Health Bounkong Syhavong  on June 26th.

Showing his pleasure with medical cooperation between the two countries, especially in medical training and medical check-ups, the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister said that the Vietnamese and Lao Health Ministries should continue to build up specific plans for promoting stricter cooperation.

He noted that the two countries should direct relevant agencies to support the building and operation of the two Vietnam - Laos Friendship Hospitals in Hua Phan and Xieng Khoang provinces, and develop medical agreements to facilitate health quarantine activities in border gates, contributing to fully realizing the model “one door-one stop”.

Lao Health Minister Bounkong Syhavong informed the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister of the discussion results between the two Health Ministers on attempting to increase and expand medical cooperation between the two countries. Accordingly, the cooperation will focus on medical check-ups and treatment, training, investment in medicine production, and the management of food safety.

Each year, medical foundations across 11 Vietnamese localities bordering Laos receive thousands of Lao patients. In training area, 11 Vietnamese universities, colleges, medical schools and hospitals participate in training Lao health staff. In addition, hundreds of Lao medical managers and lecturers join training courses in Vietnam./.
