Vietnam - Laos relationship to be reinforced

Vietnamese Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh is paying an official visit to Laos from June 19th-22nd at the invitation of her Lao counterpart Phankham Viphavanh.

During the talks between the Vietnamese and Lao Vice State Presidents on June 19th, the two sides agreed to continue to realize agreements signed by high-ranking leaders; exchange delegations between ministries, agencies and localities; increase people-to-people diplomatic activities, especially among the young generation, in order to further connect the two nations, laying a firm foundation for the next generations to inherit the special Vietnam -Laos relationship.

They also reached a consensus to enhance security and defence cooperation, including cooperation in preventing trans-national crime and ensuring security for the development in the two countries’ border areas; work together to manage border areas, restrict free migration, and implement the two Governments’ agreement on addressing free migrated residents and marriages without certificates.

They confirmed that the two countries would continue to support each other at international and regional forums, including the United Nations, ASEAN and sub-regional mechanisms. On this occasion, the Vietnamese Vice State President expressed her thanks to Laos and other ASEAN member countries for committing their support for Vietnam's application for a seat on the UN Security Council.

On the same day, Vietnamese Vice State President greeted Lao Party General Secretary and State President Bounnhang Volachith and Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. During the meetings, Lao leaders stressed that the Lao Party and Government always attached great importance to reinforcing and fostering the Laos - Vietnam special relationship; and agreed to continue to increase the comprehensive cooperative ties between the two Parties and Governments./.
