Vietnam-Laos Solidarity Year 2017 marked in Northern Laos

A solemn meeting was organized to mark the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity Year 2017, 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Amity and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in Phongsaly province on October 12th.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Khamchen Vongphosy, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Governor of Phongsaly province, stressed that they are important political and historical events of the two countries.

He reviewed the traditions of the previous struggle for independence, as well as in the cause of national construction and defence of the two nations. Particularly since 1986, when the two parties had comprehensive renovation, the cooperation between the two countries in general, and Phongsaly province and Vietnam’s northwestern provinces in particular, is increasingly consolidated and developed.

On this occasion, representative of Phongsaly province awarded medals for the development cause and friendship medals to some groups and individuals from Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces who have made outstanding achievements.

Phongsaly is a northern province of Laos with a 385km long border with Dien Bien province. Over the past five years, Vietnam has helped the province develop its economy with total non-refundable aid capital of nearly VND270 billion and train officials, soldiers and people in the province./.
