The ASEAN Committee in Pretoria (APC) on June 29th organized the ASEAN Festival Day 2019, with the participation of 7 ASEAN member countries that have embassies in South Africa, attracting diplomatic delegations and tens of thousands of local people.

Addressing the opening festival, Philippines Ambassador to South Africa Joseph Gerard B. Angeles, who is also current APC President, stressed that ASEAN Festival Day is not only a chance for ASEAN community in Pretoria to meet but also for increasing cultural and people-to-people diplomacy between ASEAN community and South Africa.

Attending the event, each ASEAN member country brought its most typical intangible cultural characteristics, products and typical specialties. Apart from cultural performances and food shows, each member country put forth space for publications on its history, people, tourism, as well as cooperation potential in economics and investment.

Not only being appreciated for its conical hats and traditional long dress, South African and international friends gave the Vietnamese Embassy many compliments for its well-prepared performances of making traditional meat rolls and corn soup. In addition, a display of Vietnamese culture and tourism attracted the special attention of many visitors.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa Vu Van Dung, the Vietnamese delegation contributed positively to the overall success of ASEAN Festival Day. “This is a result of the efforts and solidarity not only from the Vietnamese Embassy but also from Vietnamese representative agencies as well as the Vietnamese community in South Africa,” he said./.
