Vietnam, Norway promote cooperation

In the first quarter of 2019, a delegation of large Norwegian businesses is expected to arrive in Vietnam to realize agreements reached between the two countries, making important contribution to promoting the bilateral cooperation.

Norway is one of the important North European partners in terms of economy and trade of Vietnam, with positive results achieved in trade and investment relations over the past years.

Statistics from the Vietnam Customs show the two-way trade turnover reached USD363 million in 2018, and over USD44 million this January. Vietnam exported mainly textile and garment, footwear, wooden products and cashew nuts to Norway, while importing fisheries, machines, devices and fertilizers from Norway. At present, there are 41 valid Norwegian projects worth USD166 million in Vietnam.

In a recent reception for Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam Grete Lochen, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung encouraged Norwegian businesses to cooperate with Vietnamese ones, especially in the maritime sector, shipbuilding, aquaculture, alternative energy and tourism.

According to the Norwegian Ambassador, Norwegian businesses appreciate cooperation potential with Vietnam, confirming that they care much about aquaculture and processing of fisheries products, alternative energy, exploitation and processing of oil, especially solar energy projects.

While Deputy Prime Minister Dung asserted that Vietnam would create a favorable and transparent investment and business environment for foreign businesses, including Norwegian businesses./.
